“Femme & Fauna” at Pump House Regional Arts Center
The “Femme”: Jo Ann Hendricks is a Jack-of-all-trades when it comes to art mediums. For this exhibit she has gathered drawn-from-life women that have been painted in bright, fanciful colors.
The “Fauna”: Ingrid Restemayer creates fiber art with intricate etchings of animals on handmade papers, successively collaged with fine papers and punctuated by hand-embroidery. The finished work has a hint of storytelling with the use of these images as pseudo-illustrations for a kind of narrative when paired with code-like paragraph shapes formed from the hand-embroidery.
For nearly two decades, JoAnn and Ingrid have been inspiring and mentoring each other on art and community projects. This exhibit represents a natural coming-together of their individual works. Though the mediums and subject matter differ, each contains expressions of color that, while not found in the reality of our subjects, emphasizes mood while the character maintains a recognizable reality.
Femme & Fauna, works by JoAnn Hendricks and Ingrid Restemayer will be on view at Pump House Regional Arts Center in La Crosse, WI from February 28th through April 13th, 2024.
Opening Reception with the artists: March 1st, 2024, 5-7pm

Artist Reception
Saturday, January 20, 2024
6:00 p.m. –8:00 p.m.
During the Northrup King Building’s January Northrup King Nights.
The Kolman & Reeb Gallery is excited to ring in 2024 by showcasing art created over 50 artists from across Minnesota with a juried group exhibition, The Big Tiny Show.
From its inception, the Kolman & Reeb Gallery has focused on ways to support Minnesota artists. This juried group show allowed the prestigious Minneapolis gallery to expand on this mission with a call inviting artists to submit their work to be considered for this show regardless of subject matter, media, and expression. The tremendous response shows Minnesota artists are passionate to share their unique perspectives.
From tried-and-true oil on canvas to pine needles and artificial sinew, gallery patrons can expect an inspiring and diverse exhibition. Adopting its name from the guideline that no one piece of art can be larger than 12 inches, The Big Tiny Show involves a variety of subject matter and media. With the varied assortment, the depth of the show has allowed for an innovative and contemporary curation.
“What excites me about this show is the opportunity it provides the Kolman & Reeb Gallery to suspend its usual aesthetic and instead display artwork
from a wide variety of Minnesota artists regardless of medium, subject, style,” says Anita Sue Kolman, Kolman & Reeb Gallery co-founder and co-partner.
Jodi Reeb, gallery curator and co-partner, comments, “with this show Anita and I were eager to open the call to all media types and expressions. The results were overwhelming, and we received a significant response from Minnesota artists interested in showing their work. Our panel of judges was delighted by the superior quality of the art submitted. We’re eager for our patrons to come and view the diverse collection from across Minnesota. Opening the call to all types of media offered me a unique experience as the show’s curator.”
All are invited to come and view this interesting blend of styles and range of talent from this large assortment of artists.
All art on display during The Big Tiny Show will be available for purchase.

“Single Story” a solo exhibition at Susan Hensel Gallery on Artsy
Ingrid Restemayer returns to Susan Hensel Gallery with a new fiber art series titled, Single Story.
“My work has always had a hint of storytelling with the inclusion of my intaglio images as pseudo-illustrations when paired with hand-embroidery. But the work in Single Story takes the imagery more into the realm of the vernacular.
In this body of work I continue to combine printmaking, collage and stitching. This particular work, however, began during pandemic lockdowns – when we were all ordered to stay home. The home, the house, became the central location for all life’s activities.
Single Story takes the idea of the house as a situation of place and circumstance. The basis for each piece is, of course, the house. I depict it as a icon of the colonial home, of the American dream.
Each icon is overlayed with a stitched or collaged element. Even in its simplicity – a few stitches, French knots, or the image of a chicken – can completely change the implied situation. The combination tells an individual, single story.
